TEACHER TRAINING

“The mastery of yoga must not be measured simply by the ability to master the techniques…but how it influences our day to day living, how it enhances our relationships, and how it promotes clarity and peace of mind.” — TKV Desikachar

I believe that it takes a minimum 10 years of yoga teaching to learn how to teach, besides having a dedicated personal yoga and meditation practice.  Over the years I have received many questions regarding Teacher Training and Mentoring.  I am happy to help anybody along their yoga path.  As one of my teachers told us at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, we should teach what we know otherwise we are no better than thieves.  I offer my consultation services to both newbie and experienced yoga teachers and students.

If you are a dedicated yoga student and would like to have a personal mentor to help guide you, email linda@metta-yoga.com with a description of your practices and what you are hoping to gain.  You need not be a yoga teacher, but a minimum of one workshop or retreat is necessary to become a mentee.  Cost for 60 minutes: $75 for one session; $55/each session for four or more sessions.

Metta Yoga’s unique teacher training is scheduled for late 2012-early 2013.  You will learn how to develop and teach an authentic yoga practice for the individual, based on the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and his students TKV Desikachar, Srivatsa Ramawami, and A.G. Mohan.  The training will surpass the standard Yoga Alliance approved 200 hours, featuring modules on Yoga Therapeutics, Teaching Yoga to Children, Fundamentals of Trauma Sensitive Yoga, and Training in Mindfulness Meditation Practice taught by Bhante Sujatha of the Blue Lotus Temple.

You must have a minimum one year of consistent (at least once a week) yoga practice to enter the program.  Because I believe that meditation is an integral part of yoga and yoga teaching — you can not authentically teach what  you do not practice yourself — a silent meditation retreat (three days minimum) will be a graduation requirement for this training.

Please keep checking for details.  In the meantime, please read about “Becoming a Yoga Teacher.”
